-Shibuya Crossing-
As one exits from the Shibuya Station, there is a huge crossing. It is impossible to miss from all the traffic and the swarming of people.
Compared to how this crossing actually is, there are very few people in this photo.
Normally, the floor would not be visible (okay.. maybe not THAT much) from the swarming of people on the road.

Near these crossings, one may find several entertainers on the street. It is also very common to find huge cameras filming for a TV program.
Many people get scouted for interviews for their peculiar fashion on the streets.


Shibuya Culture (Gals or Gyaru)




Shibuya Gals are famous for their make up and fashion style. All over Asia, many follow their style of make up (Mostly celebrities).
These types of fashion has become an issue several times for its extreme make up styles. As a Gal takes off her make up, she may seem like a totally different person.

Types of Gals (Shibuya 109 Gals):

1. Hime Gals ひめキャル Princess Girls

As the name states, these gals have a strong feeling of elegance and princess like feelings.
They normally have curly, wavy, and long hair, called Mori Mori Hair.

They spend more time on hair make up then any other types of Gals.
The main goal of these Gals are to look cute and lovely.

They aim for a lighter tone of skin color, and focus on eyeliner more than eye shadow.

2. Ko Gals コキャル High School Girls

High school teenagers are most likely to be a Ko Gal.

These gals were a big issue once for their non-school like appearances.
They were a hit fashion trend starting from the middle of the 1990s.

The fashion style of Ko Gals are usually of a light tone color hair, cute school uniform, with loose socks.
Great attention is given to small accessories with Anime or manga characters dangling.

3. Onee Gals おねキャル Older Girls

Onee Gals aim to look more older and more sexier.
While trying to look more of a lady like gals, they just want the right amount of sexiness involved (not too much).

The hair color is usually a bit darker than other Gals with a clean feeling.
Onee gals are very famous all over Asia, and especially Korea.
Korean celebrities tend to follow similar fashion with Onee Gals in Japan.

4. Yamanba やまんば Goblin

Yamanba is a extreme type of Gals. They have on a dark skin tone with a white surrounding the eyes, like a panda.
The word Yamanba comes from a goblin creature living in the mountains.

They swarm around in groups, and they are very hard to find solitary.

Shibuya 109

Shibuya 109 is a department store teenagers visit for shopping. It is very similar to the Korea's Dongdae.
Many different style of teens to adults visit Shibuya 109 to spice up their fashion style.

As walking down the street, finding fashions such as the picture above is not a rare sighting.
In fact, more than half of the girls in Shibuya 109 have a unique fashion styles.

-Shibuya Station-

Shibuya Station is built on top of a river. Although normally, buildings over rivers are illegal, when Shibuya station was built, it was permitted (Shibuya 109).

In the photo, the top part of the crossing is where the Hachiko Exit of Shibuya Station is located.
The Hachiko Exit was named after a loyal dog. The dog was famous for waiting for his master everyday in the same spot, even though the master has gotten into an accident and unfortunately has faced death. There is a statue of Hachiko not far from the station where he used to wait.
Other than the Hachiko exit, there are 5 other exits of this particular station.
